A FOOD wholesaler in York has opened up its phone lines to support residents in the city and surrounding areas through the Coronavirus pandemic.

Miller Food Service, based in Dunnington, has opened its phone lines to the public.

They have done so to make sure nobody goes without food or other essentials due to empty supermarket shelves.

Nevil Pearce, partner at UHY Calvert Smith Chartered Accountants in York, who advise Miller Food Service, said: "It’s vitally important that all of us in Yorkshire work together to help the most vulnerable in our communities.

"It’s wonderful to see Miller Food Service putting the people of our area first."

The wholesalers are keen to make sure elderly and vulnerable people in more remote parts of the area are aware that they can pick up the phone and order products like pasta, toilet rolls, cleaning products and vegetables to be delivered to them.

This could be vital for people in villages that are not well-served by public transport.

The delivery service will be available from Wednesday. Minimum orders are £40.

The service will be available until 9pm daily. Call 01904 655 368 to place an order.
