A YORK animal home has received a large cash boost to help towards their rescues’ vet bills and boarding costs.

RSPCA York and Harrogate recently received a £15,000 grant from Support Adoption For Pets.

Peter Gorbert, branch manager of the animal home, said: "The cost of offering the best care for the pets we take in can often add up.

"That’s where the grant will be a huge help to us and we are exceptionally thankful to the Support Adoption For Pets team."

This independent branch of the RSPCA operates from its centre near York, caring for up to 54 dogs, 72 cats and 19 rabbits at any one time.

The centre also has a small wildlife unit which houses injured hedgehogs and wild birds until they can be released back into the wild.

Laura Messenger, grant funding coordinator at Support Adoption For Pets, said: “It is a real privilege to be able to help such an important organisation that works tirelessly to care for and rehome pets in need.

"They are doing a remarkable job."
