A UNIVERSITY in York has chosen to make changes to applications, after it was announced that examinations would be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

York St John University has announced that there will be longer be academic requirements included in offers for students from the UK that have applied to start in September this year.

This means that all offers to students will now be unconditional.

Although, if offers had other conditions, such as DBS check, then these may need to be met.

Those applying for courses in teaching, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and biomedical science may need to wait as these applications could take longer to process.

Matthew Taylor, director of marketing, student recruitment and admissions as the University, said: “We have decided to take this decisive action immediately so that you can have stability during this uncertain time.

“We want you to know that we will be 100% supportive of our applicants and that we’ll be as flexible as we can possibly be, to ensure that everyone who wants to come and join us this year can do.

"We also felt that this was the best way of maintaining our excellent record in supporting people from backgrounds which are under-represented at universities, as they are often the people who are the least well served in terms of advice and guidance.

“Stay safe and look after yourselves and those close to you.”

Applications from students outside the UK will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The University has been forced to cancel its ‘Decision Day’ on April 1, due to the Government advice on social distancing.
