In the The War of the World, HG Wells’ groundbreaking 1898 science fiction novel, there was an invasion of Earth by an all powerful force from Mar. This invasion force was so powerful that even the most modern and powerful countries couldn’t stand against it. But then it was overcome by the smallest of gods creatures, the microscopic lifeforms on planet Earth.

Fast forward forward 122 years to now and the world has been taken over by huge international companies with revenues larger than many countries: all-powerful conglomerates dictating the world’s commerce and trade.

Now these companies, too, have been brought to their knees by the smallest microscopic lifeforms on Earth.

HG Wells was certainly ahead of his time when he wrote The War of The Worlds. Perhaps it’s time we all reflected on tconsumerism and the way we look after the Earth before we do what the Martians couldn’t and destroy our planet.
