It was disappointing to arrive at Sainsbury’s Monk’s Cross branch at 7.30 on Thursday morning to find huge gaps on the shelves (including no toilet paper, of course!) - this despite a young assistant assuring me the same shelves had been full at 7am.

It was also annoying to see several young shoppers - and not accompanying older or infirm customers - brazenly doing their shopping in this slot notionally set aside for others.

Equally disappointing was the fact that the online delivery slots that Sainsbury’s have reserved for the above demographic will not be implemented until Monday. It seems that the requisite organisational nous lags behind the magnanimity of their gesture.
