In your story about Age UK being there for older people during this Covid19 crisis (Older people told ‘You’re not alone’, March 17) you mention that Sally Hutchinson is the outgoing Chief Officer.
Sally has given her all over the years to obtain the best outcome for our elderly residents in all sorts of areas.
I had the great privilege of working under her excellent leadership for a good few years after leaving the NHS. I only wanted to work for a couple of hours a week to ‘keep my hand in’ in the care sector. The experience was so wonderful and rewarding that I ended up staying for more years than I intended and working for just a few hours over the couple I intended to do, working in several roles.
Sally was never one to back off from a task. Nothing was ‘beneath’ her. She really is one of the unsung heroes of the care sector in York. I wonder why she never received an award of some sort. May I take this opportunity to wish her and her husband Barry much health and happiness on her retirement and thank her for the support she gave me.
