A POPULAR music venue in York has announced today that it will close its doors as a precautionary measure after the coronavirus outbreak.

The Crescent in York announced on Twitter earlier today that it will be closing until further notice.

They have set up a JustGiving page for donations to support them during their closure period.

A spokesperson for The Crescent said: "We are fundraising to help keep us afloat during this period with zero income.

"We have significant overheads to pay, these add up to approximately £3,500 a week.

"This is not a decision we take lightly. As a music venue, community focal point and pub, our income is entirely dependant on bar sales.

"However, as responsible citizens, we need to do our part in avoiding the virus spreading further."

It was revealed that the venue could be closed for up to 12 weeks.

All tickets will remain valid for rescheduled dates.

Tickets can be refunded, but The Crescent ask those who have tickets to consider supporting the venue and artists by not refunding them if they are able to afford to.

The JustGiving page can be found here.
