YORK and North Yorkshire bus operators are set to support volunteers helping those living in isolation due to coronavirus.

Operators Coastliner and York and Country will offer free travel for organised groups.

Following the latest Government update, it is anticipated that these organised groups of volunteers will be formed to help deliver food, medicine and vital supplies to those living in isolation at home.

Coastliner and York and Country have said they will offer these groups free travel on any of their buses to complete their task.

Coastliner and York and Country general manager, Ben Mansfield, said: “This is clearly a very worrying and challenging time for many in the communities we serve, and we want to do everything we possibly can to support local people.

“The role of volunteers will be vital in getting supplies to those who must remain in their homes and have no other way of accessing food.”

Meanwhile additional measures are in place to reassure everyone that Coastliner and York and Country’s buses are safe to use, with a thorough cleaning regime in place.

All drivers are also being given personal sanitiser gel kits.
