UPDATED: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL THE END OF APRIL

A TEAM of young people have organised a project to support koalas injured or orphaned after the recent bush fires in Australia.

BYT, a group of young industry professionals from a variety of backgrounds, are looking to raise funds for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Koala appeal.

The group have produced nine 3D models of koalas, all of which are made of sustainable materials.

They met last week in Bradford to assemble each of the models.

Each koala, designed by different members of BYT, will be placed in a different location around York city centre. They will be put in several sites from Saturday (March 21) and will remain in place for a month.

Each koala will have a QR code on, that when scanned, will take people to a just giving page set up specifically for the event.

They have produced a map to allow people to navigate around the city to find each model.

Dominion, a wide format printer, signage, and graphics supplier based in Bradford, are involved with project support.

They are are producing the koala models, posters, and some collateral for the cause.

The WWF Koala appeal are supporting koalas that were injured as a result of the recent bush fires in Australia.

In some areas, over 30 per cent of their habitat has been destroyed.

Although, it is now just the bush fires that have reduced the number of Koalas.

Estimates of wild Koala numbers have plummeted over the last decade as their habitats have been decimated by logging, and the population ravaged by disease.

They can also be killed by traffic.

It is estimated that the national population of koalas now stands at around 43,000. In areas like Queensland, this represents an 80 per cent decline in 25 years.
