ANYONE with links to Huntington’s Disease is being invited to an event at a York nursing home later this month, at which an update will be given on the latest research results.

Penelope Worsley, chair of the York branch of the Huntington’s Disease Association, which is hosting the event at Minster Grange Nursing home in Haxby Road on Tuesday March 24, said that Callum Schofield, a genetic research practitioner, will be speaking.

"There has been some exciting progress made in research into this rare and devastating disease and it will be wonderful to hear the good news," she said.

"We are inviting anyone with links to Huntington’s Disease, either as a carer, a social worker, doctor or family members who are interested in the genetic issues of HD."

She said places would be limited and anyone wanting to come should email her at penelopeworsley@gmail.com.

"Huntington’s Disease is a hereditary neurological disease of the brain, which means sufferers may ultimately need full time nursing care," she said.

"It affects people of any age and either sex with a 50/50 chance of inheriting it if one of your parents has it."
