A SEVERE flood warning, meaning there is a danger to life, was issued for a North Yorkshire town and village today, and there are many less serious warnings in force elsewhere across the county.

The severe warning, which is the highest possible, was issued for the River Nidd at Pateley Bridge and Bewerley. It has since been downgraded to a flood warning.

The Environment Agency has said: "River levels at Pateley Bridge peaked at 2pm on 09/02/2020. The flood warning remains in force. We are monitoring the situation closely from our Area Incident Room, which remains open. Operational staff have been out on the ground monitoring the situation. No further significant rainfall is expected. "

Elsewhere in North Yorkshire, there are numerous other flood warnings and alerts in place.

An alert has been issued for the Upper River Ouse in and around York.

There are warnings for the River Nidd at Knaresborough, Bishop Monkton Beck at Bishop Monkton and for the River Ure at Roecliffe Caravan Park, to name just a few.

An alert is in force for the Lower River Nidd at Tockwith and Moor Monkton.
