A WARNING about an email hacking incident has been issued by Penmaenmawr town council.
A council spokesman said: “The council’s email system was hacked on Wednesday morning. This message did not originate at the council.
“Please exercise caution and do not open the attachment. The rough message is entitled New Project and can be identified by an incorrect contact telephone number, which is similar to the council’s number.”
He added: "This was the first time our system has been hacked and our IT support detected it within minutes. But that didn't prevent more than 1,000 spurious emails to addressees from our contacts book being sent out.
"Our IT support conducted a thorough review of our system and cleaned any viruses off our computers. We will be taking whatever action is necessary to prevent this happening again."
