PROTESTERS from Extinction Rebellion have formed a human chain across one of the bridges in York city centre blocking traffic.
The protest on Lendal Bridge has been going on for the last half hour and has caused traffic delays in the area around York Station.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said on Tuesday morning (December, 11): "We attended reports of protesters at the Rougier Street end of Lendal Bridge in York at 6pm yesterday.
"A group of protesters with banners stood in the road intermittently for a few minutes at a time. They dispersed by 6.40pm.
“Officers attended and spoke to those present, to make sure everyone was safe, and to minimise disruption. We have a duty to balance the needs of everyone involved – including the wishes of York residents to go about their lives without disruption, and the wishes of those who want to protest in a safe and peaceful way.
“We will always liaise with those involved in protest, explaining clearly what is acceptable and what action will be taken if necessary.”
