A FIRE engine on its way to responding to a 999 call was involved in a collision with another vehicle, causing it to collide with a pedestrian yesterday evening (November 21).

The pedestrian was transported to York District Hospital with a suspected leg fracture. The 45-year-old driver of the Astra was cut out of the car by the fire service and taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance with serious injuries.

The road was initially closed but has now re-opened.
A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Our thoughts are with those who were injured at this time."
An investigation into the incident is now being carried out.
