A heavy police presence was reported in South Ham earlier tonight as officers dealt with an incident. 

Witnesses reported around seven police cars and two incident response ambulances in the area of Sandy Road shortly after 7pm.   

The nature of the incident remains unknown at this time.

Both Hampshire Constabulary and South Central Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment. 

A resident who wished to remain unnamed told the Gazette they had been told to keep their windows and doors closed.

He said: "I had not long got home from work. It was worrying. We were told to keep all doors and windows shut."

Police have been seen carrying out patrols on Sandy Road, Aldworth Crescent and South Ham Road.
