AN alleged scammer has been arrested at Bolton over a half-price tickets con.

It is understood the man was using a stolen debit card to buy tickets for commuters then selling them on for a reduced fare for cash.

Witnesses said most passengers were refusing the offer - but that the man was bothering customers and became abusive with staff.

Police were called and a man was arrested and escorted into a police van outside the station.

Two police vehicles and a number of officers were at the station at about 9.30am today.

One onlooker said: "The man was offering to use a card to buy train tickets for people then selling them to people at half price for cash.

"It was not a sophisticated scam. Most people were ignoring him but he was starting to bother people too."

Police were at the scene for about 30 minutes.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
