THREE York restaurants have made it into The Good Food Guide’s prestigious list of places to eat in the UK.

Roots, Los Moros and the wine bar Cave Du Cohon have all been acknowledged in The Good Food Guide Waitrose and Partners 2020 food shortlist, which highlights the best places to eat around the UK.

Meanwhile, the three eateries have also made it into the top 50 restaurants throughout the North East.

The Good Food Guide has reviews the best restaurants, pubs, and cafés across the UK.

Each year, the guide is rewritten and compiled from scratch, with all reviews being based on feedback from readers, together with anonymous expert inspections.

Los Moros, which serves modern North African food, ran as a street food stall from 2015 but opened as a restaurant in Grape Lane, York, last October.

This is the first time the restaurant has appeared on the list and owner, Tarik Abdeladim, described the accolade as “overwhelming”. He said: “I spent years reading the Good Food magazine whilst working at restaurants in York and now to have my own eatery named is overwhelming.

“We have worked hard, making our food known to the residents and tourists of York since 2015 both at the food stall and now as a restaurant.

“It has always been a dream to have my restaurant mentioned and to do so in the first year of opening is quite an achievement.

“Hopefully this is a platform that we can build on, and keep growing our name in York.”

Meanwhile, Tommy Banks, the owner of Roots restaurant in Marygate, said he will celebrate the award this weekend as the restaurant celebrates its first anniversary.

He added: “It is the icing on the cake for our year anniversary and a great reward for a hardworking year.”
