A LITTLE boy was taken to hospital after falling from a beachfront land train.

The train was halted at a busy stretch of Bournemouth beach after the accident, which took place at 4.20pm yesterday.

Witnesses heard a scream before the train was brought to a halt near the wedding marquee between Bournemouth pier and Alum Chine.

Council staff and lifeguards went to the aid of the child and a guest from the nearby wedding venue also helped with first aid.

Barriers were placed around the train due to the high number of people in the area.

The little boy and his family were waiting on the train for around 40 minutes before an ambulance arrived at the scene.

Bournemouth council's Senior Ranger, Tom Harris, said: "At 4:20pm, a boy fell from a land train travelling from Durley Chine towards Bournemouth. Seafront Rangers and RNLI Lifeguards were on hand to deal with the incident and the boy has been taken to hospital."
