AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a blaze at a shop in Harrogate town centre today (June 21).
The fire broke out this morning in a three-storey building between Station Parade and Beulah Street, close to the bus station.
It was reported to North Yorkshire fire service at 9am and eight fire crews attended the scene.
At around 1pm, station manager Tony Walker said the incident was being scaled down and crews were damping down hot sports and checking for fire spread.
He later said the fire had caused "extensive damage" to the shop where it broke out and that firefighters had worked very hard to stop it spreading.
He added: "Investigation into the cause is now underway."
