A CARAVAN has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said the static, unoccupied caravan was well alight when firefighters from Acomb arrived at the blaze near the River Ouse and Beningbrough Park, upstream of York, at just before 2pm today.

A spokesman said gas cylinders involved in the fire were removed and cooled using hose reel jets.

"The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate," he said.

He added that the caravan had been abandoned and no one was hurt.
