MORE than £8,300 has now been raised towards an appeal to buy a new craft for York Rescue Boat.
The £45,000 Sunshine Campaign was launched last month by the parents of a 19-year-old man who drowned in the River Foss during a night out in York city centre.
Sonny Ferry was one of five people who died in three weeks in York's rivers during April.
His parents Kate and Stephen hope to help prevent further such tragedies through a new craft for the rescue boat volunteers, fitted with modern sonar and radio communications equipment,
The online appeal, which can be donated to by going to https://www.gofundme.com/the-sunshine-campaign, had reached £8,341 by today, including £1,190 collected at Sonny's recent funeral, £1,100 raised at Sonny's former school, Casterton College, and £100 from a charity box collection at several outlets in Sonny's home area, the Stamford Post, Stamford Baobab Cafe and The Captain Noel Newton.
