IN the Yorkshire and Humber region we have an array of candidates standing for the Euro elections, which seems a little bemusing.

I think it is fair to say that only one issue is at stake here: people are either pro-Brexit or pro-Remain.

Nothing else really matters in this election - which is just as well because on TV’s Question Time last week Nigel Farage admitted that the Brexit Party haven’t got any policies other than Brexit.

With the current state of politics and divided parties across the board it seems to me that only two parties warrant consideration at this election - Brexit Party for leavers and Liberal Democrat for remainers.

Any other votes will simply split the election into another indecisive divide.

We need information ahead of Euro vote

IN order to vote to some purpose on May 23 I hope that we will hear during the coming week from the local candidates standing to be members of the European Parliament.

They need to tell us what of the proposals currently before, or coming before, the European Parliament they intend to vote for or against if they are elected.

Since they are standing as members of domestic British political parties, that gives us no idea what policies they want to see implemented by the EU Parliament where they will be voting. EU MPs do not sit or vote in national blocks or under national political labels.

The EU has taken a strong stance on restricting the use of harmful pesticides, on the introduction of harmful genetic modification, on the importing of antibiotic treated meat, and on preventing tax-evasion.

We need to know, before May 23, where the candidates stand on these and similar issues.
