A YORK restaurant which closed down just a year after opening is set to be turned into offices.

The Cat’s Pyjamas, an Indian street kitchen and craft beer restaurant situated in Cumberland Street next door to the Grand Opera House, shut down suddenly last month.

A notice in the window said: “Notice of Administration. This restaurant is now closed.”

A planning application has now been submitted by Stonegrave Properties to turn the unit into offices.

Under the plans, alterations would be made to the layout of the 400sqm site.

The application says the company had already made enquiries about turning the restaurant into offices in November 2018.

And it adds: “King Street is situated to the east of the River Ouse off Coppergate and Clifford Street.

“The building was built in the early 1990s, is three storeys high and presently used as restaurants on the ground floor and offices on the first and second floors.”

The York restaurant had100 seats and opened in a building formerly occupied by Silvanos, which served residents on the site for more than 35 years.
