NHS staff in North Yorkshire are supporting the 'Are We Ready?' message during Dying Matters Awareness Week.

Staff at Harrogate District Hospital and Ripon Community Hospital are marking the week by highlighting the importance of talking to family and friends about wishes and preferences for those who have a life-limiting diagnosis.

During the annual event, staff from the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust are hosting information stands at both hospitals, providing advice and support.

They are also asking people to write down five things they want to do before they die and share them on their 'wishes' board.

Palliative care clinical nurse specialist, Sarah Davie, said: "We are encouraging the importance of talking about death and your wishes and preferences.

"It's vitally important that these are discussed with family and friends, otherwise it can cause a lot of distress."

Dying Matters Awareness Week is an annual event and runs from May 13-19. For more information visit dyingmatters.org
