A NEW burger restaurant that was voted one of the top in the country has opened its doors in York.

Burgsy’s burger house, that has been a firm favourite with Whitby residents and visitors over the years, opened its doors to customers in York on Monday.

The American-themed burger bar, which is located on Castlegate, prides itself on its quality meat and homemade sauces and was voted by Tripadvisor last year as the second best in the UK for the humble hamburger.

The company is run by Marta Gemra, 33, and her husband Patryk, 34, who first started flipping burgers on an industrial site in Whitby in 2014.

They subsequently opened Burgsy’s in 2015, and for the last three years they have been running a successful restaurant in the resort and the couple have now decided to take the next step by moving to York.

The new restaurant is a far cry from the old industrial site and can now accommodate up to 50 customers at a time.

Ms Gemra said: “We have had a wonderful three years running the restaurant here but the premises only houses 18 seats and we wanted to expand.

“This business is like our third child, we’ve been growing and nurturing it since it was just a dream. Now it feels like a very big leap to move to a bigger premise and a new city, but this is what we love doing and we hope the people of York will see our dedication. We’ve relocated to York ourselves, moved our children to new schools, put our all into it it and we are so excited for people to come and try a bite.”

So far the duo have hired five people and hope to employ a few more as the company becomes more popular.

The restaurant is open daily from 12pm until 9pm and has a lunchtime and an evening menu.
