POLICE arrested two men on suspicion of cross-border drug dealing.

North Yorkshire Police said officers on patrol near Knaresborough stopped a vehicle on the A1 southbound at Wetherby Services, at about 10.15pm on Monday, May 13, where "they recovered a bag of white powder that was thrown from the vehicle".

The occupants - two men from Middlesbrough - and the car were searched, and officers recovered drugs, cash and mobile phones.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply, driving while disqualified and drug driving. His passenger, a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply. Both remained in police custody on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said part of the force's investigation would look into links with 'county lines' or cross border drug dealing, where organised criminals travel to smaller county towns to pedal drugs.

Anyone with information about drug dealing in their neighbourhood should phone 101, 999 in an emergency, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
