FOUR people have been arrested after a break-in at a York swimming pool, which has been forced to temporarily close.

Yearsley Swimming Pool, off Haxby Road, will remain closed for the rest of today (May 14) following the break-in early this morning. It is expected to open as normal tomorrow morning at 7am.

North Yorkshire Police said it was called to the address at around 1am today.

A spokesman for the force added: "Following a search of the area, a woman in her 20s, two men in their 20s and a 17-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"They currently remain in custody while inquiries continue."

Police have been at the scene today, carrying out investigations and establishing what was stolen, the spokesman said.

A spokesperson for GLL, the company responsible for operating the pool, told The Press that following the break-in, the intruder alarm went off and the police were notified.

The pool was expected to remain closed until this afternoon, but due to the damage caused, it will now stay closed for the rest of the day, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also commented: "Engineers and GLL staff are currently clearing up and repairing the damage that has been caused. The pool will open as normal tomorrow morning at 7am.
