YORK pupils have been inspired to get active after a visit by a top British athlete.

Commonwealth silver medal-winning triple jumper Laura Samuel visited The Mount School to inspire students to live a healthier, more active lifestyle.

She kicked off by delivering a motivational talk, discussing her personal journey and the obstacles she has overcome, as well as the benefits of exercise and good nutrition, before leading the children in a circuits class.

She said: "It was great to see the kids so excited and engaged.

"Whether children are looking to start a new sport for fun or thinking of taking a chance on their dreams, and taking their discipline to the next level, everyone can reap the benefits of exercise."

The visit was organised by Sports for Champions, which encourages schools to fundraise for visits by top athletes and new sporting equipment.
