A DAY nursery has gone from humble beginnings to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Young Discoverers, at Escrick Business Park, near York, opened with five staff members and just three youngsters attending on its first day.

Now, it provides care to around 70 children every week and employs nearly 20 people.

Director Ruth Newton, who along with manager Kathy Wainwright, is still at the heart of the business said: "We are very proud of the excellent reputation we have built and the high standard of care we provide at the nursery, which has maintained a 'Good' Ofsted rating.

"Kathy and I put our success down to our amazing team and their dedication to provide the very best childcare possible."

To celebrate its milestone anniversary, the nursery had an open day for past, present and future children, families and staff, with an engine from Selby Fire Service.
