A TEAM of accountants will jump in the saddle to raise money for charity.

Employees from Garbutt + Elliott will take part in a 40-mile race to raise money for two local charities, with an aim to raise £6,000 for York Hospital's Special Care Baby Unit and Harrogate-based Our Angels.

The peloton of 40 employees will cycle from the centre of Leeds, through Harrogate and on to York on Sunday, May 19, and a similar event last year raised more than £5,500.

The York Special Care Baby Unit looks after premature and sick new born babies, and provides emotional support and financial assistance to parents and siblings.

Clare Stones, treasurer at York SCBU, said: "We are continually inspired by the incredible fundraising efforts from Garbutt + Elliott. They put on so many great fundraisers throughout the year and we are always excited to hear about their amazing efforts and achievements."

Our Angels supports parents and families through the heartbreak of baby loss, dealing with late miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death.

Chris Binnie from the charity said: "The fundraising team at Garbutt + Elliott have been long-term supporters of our cause and we’re very grateful for their continued dedication. Fundraising events such as these make a big difference to all the individuals and families that we support."

Nigel Shaw, partner and head of corporate social responsibility at Garbutt + Elliott, said: "These are both very worthwhile causes that do so much valuable work in Yorkshire and we’re looking forward to hitting the road to show our support and raise valuable funds. Our staff are committed to raising money for good causes in our area and I’m proud that the size of the team keeps growing."
