TWO more travelling shoplifters have been jailed after they targeted York Designer Outlet.

Kate Michelle Dixon, 30, and Demi Leigh Kirk, 23, planned a 110-mile round trip from their homes in Sheffield to steal hundreds of pounds of designer clothes at the McArthur Glen site south of York, the city's magistrates court heard.

But they were caught before they could get away with their loot.

Dixon had no previous convictions and Kirk has only one, for taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.

Lawyers for the pair said they were in financial difficulties and were sorry for their actions.

But district judge Adrian Lower told the women: "This was pre planned and one of you had a de-tagging device.

"I am sure McArthur Glen was deliberately targeted because it sells high end goods.

"I cannot believe Sheffield shops have run out of clothes to steal for those who want to steal clothes."

Dixon, of Motehall Place, Sheffield, and Kirk, of Stradbrook Road, Sheffield, both pleaded guilty to four charges of theft on February 25.

Dixon also admitted going equipped for theft because she was caught with a device to remove security tags from clothes.

She was jailed for 18 weeks and Kirk was jailed for 16 weeks.

Both were disqualified from driving for 12 months.

York Magistrates Court heard they stole clothes from Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfigher stores in the Designer Outlet.

Chris McGrogan for Dixon said she had lost her job after she had a miscarriage and as a result she wasn't thinking rationally.

For Kirk, Sal Alnoud said she was a single mother with young children living on benefits. She had made a big mistake in carrying out the raid.
