BENINGBROUGH Hall is inviting York residents to a week full of artistic activities that includes a first look at the paintings of some famous faces.

From Tuesday until Friday next week, the Saloon Galleries will play host to an array of events that will inspire people to ‘stimulative your creative thinking’.

The wide selection of artwork is currently on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, the Arts Council Collection, and also from Olivia Hemingway, a working artist in Yorkshire.

Both the art work and the interactive activities will encourage visitors to think about the typical character traits most associated with God’s Own County.

On Tuesday residents can join the house and collections manager for a walk and talk to discover what goes on behind the scenes looking after an 18th century hall and its collection.

Wednesday will introduce the latest artistic technology. Participants can grab a pencil or an iPad for a sketchbook tour using the exhibition of works of art by David Hockney, Barbara Hepworth, and Patrick Heron as inspiration.

Thursday will give visitors a rare chance to meet the National Trust curator to under how the museum curates contemporary exhibitions in historic settings and find out a little more about the future plans for Beningbrough Hall as it continues to evolve.

Finally, you can reflect and draw from the art on the walls around you to fire up your imagination for creative writing sessions. Notable displays include large portraits of Sir Patrick Stewart and Jodie Whittaker by Yorkshire photographic artist Olivia Hemingway, which will be on display until November 3.
