A FREE, family-friendly Kite Festival will be held this weekend.

The festival will be held at Sewerby Fields, Bridlington, on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, with a range of colourful displays and sequences performed by expert flyers.

Displays by rare Oriental Kites, Indian Fighter Kites and some of the world’s largest inflatables will take place, with local traders also at the festival selling street food and local produce.

Will Hall, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's events manager, said: "This is the fourth year of the festival, which attracts thousands of people to the area and provides a boost for local tourism. The festival continues to grow in popularity year-on-year."

Families are encouraged to bring picnics and seating or blankets for the coastal event, with activities including an inflatable boot camp, Nerf zones, face painting and traditional fairground rides.

Children can also bring their favourite cuddly toy for a 'parachute jump', to be presented with a certificate.

The Bridlington Kite Festival runs from 10am to 5pm on both days, for more information go to bridlingtonkitefestival.com
