SHAKESPEARE'S Rose Theatre's return to York got off to a cracking start when producer James Cundall dropped Yorick' s skull as the cast and creative teams gathered at Clifford's Tower.
"I was Christening this summer's shows," joked the Lunchbox Theatrical Productions impresario as he surveyed the debris this morning.
Seated alongside him was Maggie Bain, who will play Henry V in Gemma Fairlie's production of Shakespeare's history play at the pop-up theatre on the Castle car park. "We auditioned a huge range of actors of all genders for this role, but no-one quite captured the complexity of the character like Maggie," said Gemma.
A company of 18 will perform Hamlet and Twelfth Night, the former directed by artistic director Damian Cruden, the latter by Joyce Branagh. A 19-strong company will present The Tempest, under Philip Franks's direction, and Fairlie's Henry V. Shakespeare's Rose Theatre will run from June 25 to September 1.
