A FAMILY-run health and wellbeing business near York is fighting fit and set to expand its operations.

Power Health, which manufactures supplements, nutritional products and natural skin and haircare at its base in Pocklington, has announced a major facilities expansion.

The company is increasing its capacity by more than 50 per cent, with a 14,800 sq ft extension to its existing, purpose-built premises in East Yorkshire.

This will allow the firm to produce and stock more lines as it grows its customer base.

It hopes that the restructuring will help it incorporate a more efficient production flow and subsequently allow the business to become Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certified.

Managing director Vicky McIver, whose daughter Stephanie is the firm’s purchasing manager, said: “We moved into our current site in 1982 and we’ve outgrown all useable space, so we’ve constructed a new building and knocked through to create a fantastic new facility.

“We manufacture, package and label all of our own products here, as well as stocking and distributing Power Health and other brands, so increasing the size of our operation by 50 per cent means we can accommodate recent growth.

“Health and wellbeing is a growing industry and there’s huge interest and demand for natural, plant-based products, which most of our lines are.

“Because we manufacture here in Yorkshire, we are able to respond to industry trends very quickly, so our expansion will allow us to stock a wider range and ensure that we can meet market demands.

“Whether that’s a newer trend, such as CBD-based products, which have grown massively in the last few years, or something more traditional, such as Fuller’s Earth, which we brought back to UK shops this year, we are now primed for expansion.”

Power Health was established in Pocklington in 1972 and now employs 65 people, many of whom are local people, including Vicky, Stephanie and other members of the family.

As well as selling via its website, the company’s products are seen on shelves across the country in independent health shops, pharmacies and national retailers, such as Holland & Barrett.

Health and wellbeing products manufactured at the company’s site in East Yorkshire include vitamins, minerals, proteins and supplements, natural remedies for common ailments, such as hay fever, a full range of CBD oils, natural beauty and hair care products.

On its website the company even boasts that celebrity make-up guru Charlotte Tilbury uses its Bumbles propolis throat mixture to soothe sore throats.
