A CAR caught fire at York's Clifton Moor Retail Park this morning (May 4).

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene at about 11.40am.

It involved a Citroen car and happened in the car park near the Sofology store.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "The driver was driving the vehicle when it set on fire and they pulled up and quickly jumped out."

She confirmed that nobody was injured.

The crews used a hose reel, breathing apparatus and small tools to deal with the fire.

An eyewitnesss said there was thick black smoke and flames coming from the car.
