POLICE are appealing for information after a man was arrested on suspicion of carrying a weapon in Malton.

North Yorkshire Police said that they received reports that a man was carrying a weapon at the Maltings, Castlegate, in Malton, at around 6.20pm on Wednesday.

In a statement, the force said: “No threats were made and nobody was injured, however the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He has since been released under investigation while officers conduct inquiries.

“We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
