TWO York writers are to feature in a prestigious anthology for unpublished poems on a medical theme.
Carole Bromley, from Stockton Lane, and Sue Norton, who lives near the racecourse, both wrote intensely personal poems after their experiences of medical conditions.
They were selected from more than 1,000 entries worldwide to feature in the Hippocrates Prize Anthology, published by the Hippocrates Initiative, which aims to promote poetry as therapy.
Carole's poem, Sodium 136, was written while she was in Hull Royal Infirmary following pituitary surgery.
Sue's poem, Chronic Fatigue, was inspired by her husband and daughter, who both suffer from ME.
She said: "The poem was written after a conversation with [my daughter] with the aim of trying to help other people understand the hidden misery of this illness."
Both poems have been commended in the 2019 Hippocrates poetry and medicine awards, which are being presented at a ceremony on May 17 by broadcaster Kate Adie CBE, who was one of the judges.
