A WOMAN who lives in a York village is walking more than 120 miles to raise money for a new online mental health website that she says has ‘saved her life’ in the past.

Jules Major 49, of Dunnington, will be embarking on a 127 mile trip from Liverpool to Leeds canal that will take two weeks.

She is raising money for online charity, Time to Talk Mental Health, which was set up a few years ago and has helped Jules with her own mental health struggles.

She said: “On Monday I’ll be getting on a train from York, heading to Liverpool.

“I’ll be setting off to walk the Liverpool to Leeds canal 127 miles over two weeks.

"I am trying to raise money for social media peer-based mental health charity, Time to Talk Mental Health.

“I have been contacting the charity for the last few years and have to say, it has probably saved my life.

“I have lived in York for three years and suffered with mental health issues throughout.

“The quality of local help for people with mental health in York is not good and many times I have felt alone with nowhere to turn to.

"But thankfully, the charity has been there for me.

“The charity is only run by one person, with several volunteers, so hopefully I can help raise some money and give the charity a greater presence.

“Time to talk is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and in the day it is monitored by volunteers all trained in mental health and they have been though situations themselves.

“It has also just received charity status which is why I wanted to raise money for them.

"This is my way to say thank you for all the support they have given me in some really hard times.”
