EVERY dog will have his or her day at Castle Howard over the May Day bank holiday weekend.

The stately home east of York is holding a three-day Festival of Dogs with displays and chances for visitors to show off their dogs - or put them to the test.

Gun dogs and mountain rescue search dogs will put on displays, as will four-footed members of the K9 Aspects and East Yorkshire Agility Club.

Visiting dogs of all breeds can compete in terrier racing, or try their paws on an agility course or circus assault course.

Owners can test their dog in Temptation Alley where the aim will be for the dog not to pick up any of the treats and toys en route.

Less energetically minded dogs can take part in a daily family dog show run by Ryedale Dog Rescue, or have their portrait taken, and therapy dogs and their minders will give insights into their work.
