Imagine what our society, and the world in general, would be like without the effects of too much alcohol.

Having seen the recent headline in The Press - “Drinker smashed glass in bouncer’s face” - I started to think along those lines. So much crime and misery has been caused for many years by alcohol.

Surely non alcoholic drinks could be produced more widely, and gradually come to replace the element which causes people to behave violently and cause endless problems for themselves, the police, those who just want a pleasant night out, and their own families.

For centuries alcohol has caused untold damage. It seems to be worse in this country than elsewhere. Why is it that in other European countries people can enjoy evenings out with friends with no bother (unless a group of British tourists turns up of course)?
