A MAN is appealing for witnesses after he alleged that a car knocked him off his bike and then 'hurriedly drove away from the scene.'

Paul Dacry, 44, from York was knocked off his bike on Rougier Street on March 15 when a black car clipped his tyres.

Paul said he fell to the ground in a lot of pain but the three individuals, who at first got out the car, quickly got back in the car and drove away.

He said: "They must have clipped me at around 20mph because I came flying off.

"But they got out to look at me and then just hurriedly drove away from the scene.

"I now have a torn groin and need an operation on the Hernia."

Paul, who works as a cleaner for Aldi, at York Railway Station and in New Earswick, said that he could be off from work for two months, which would cause him to lose earnings.

He said: "I work seven days-a-week and now I don't know how long I will be off from work, which could lose me up to £11,000 of work which I need to pay my bills."

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "Police received a report at 3.30pm Friday 19 March 2019 of a collision between a cyclist and a black Audi which had happened at around 2.50pm that day, on Rougier Street in York.
