FIREFIGHTERS have fought their third hay bale fire in 24 hours in York and North Yorkshire.
About a tonne of hay bales caught fire in Naburn Lane, York, at just before 9pm last night, with a York crew extinguishing it with pitch forks, beaters and a back pack sprayer.
Malton firefighters tackled two other such fires yesterday, one just off the A64 near East Knapton and the other at the side of the road near Slingsby, with the latter believed to have been caused deliberately.
