A HAIRDRESSING salon has been badly damaged after thieves broke in, smashed a window and stole several items.

Two vandals were caught on CCTV leaving Sam Olgar Hair Salon, in Bridge Street, York, in the early hours of Sunday, April 14, shortly after the shop was broken into.

Owner of the salon, Sam Olgar, said the burglars stole a selection of GHD hair straighteners and hair products. They then attempted to break into the salon the following night, which resulted in part of the the glass window being smashed, which has since been boarded up.

He said: “The first incident happened at about 3am on Sunday morning.

“They stole a selection of GHDS and a lot of hair products.

“The following night they smashed the window which has meant that we had to close the hairdressers for two days, losing business.

“I think the total costs will be a lot of money.

“It is very upsetting after we just had a refurbishment three months ago.

“Hopefully someone will come forward to help us find out who they were.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We received reports at 6.50am on Sunday morning that several items had been stolen from a salon in York.

“Twelve GHDs were stolen from the salon as well as a selection of bottled shampoos.

“We then received reports at around 4am on Monday morning after a man heard glass smash and saw a man running off down Skeldergate.

"The window was damaged but nobody managed to get into the shop." Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 12190068138.
