WILDLIFE artist and sculptor David Cemmick and artist/printmaker Sarah Cemmick are going wild for their spring exhibition at Pyramid Gallery, Stonegate, York.

In their joint show, running until May 12, David's thought-provoking sculptures and portrayals of African and Asian endangered species in oil, acrylic, bronze and bonded stone contrast with Sarah's lino-cut portrayals of British wildlife in a celebration of the coming of spring.

The Cemmicks live and work in the beautiful Eden Valley among the foothills of the Cumbrian Pennines, where each gains inspiration from the countryside and its abundant wildlife.

Gallery owner Terry Brett says: "It's a great privilege to be able to bring these two acclaimed artists to York for their third exhibition at Pyramid Gallery, especially at a time when there is such a great need to be aware of the environmental pressures on wildlife."

David has travelled extensively and documented plant and animal species from some of the world’s most remote habitats. This has resulted in his illustrating two books focusing on the endangered Kakapo Parrot and Black Robin, as well as studying coral and fish communities on Jamaica’s Morant Cays coral atoll and painting under water.

"Expeditions such as these have inspired David’s art, where he translates what he has seen in nature, from field sketch to finished painting, or sculpture in bronze and clay," says Terry.

Sarah studied environmental illustration at Sunderland University, where her passion for linocut printing first emerged. She has exhibited throughout Britain, been awarded the Lloyds Private Banking Award at the Society of Wildlife Artists, and supplied the National Trust with a lino-cut for a Christmas card.

Pyramid Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and on Sundays, 12.30pm to 4.30pm.
