AN award-winning Harrogate sweet company has created hot cross bun fudge for a national supermarket chain.

The Serious Sweet Company has created the tasty seasonal treat as part of Asda's Extra Special range, which will be on sale in stores and online until the end of Easter.

The fun flavour was co-developed as part of an ongoing partnership that sees exciting new flavours developed for both seasonal occasions and year-round sale.

Other flavours for Asda include current favourites pink gin marshmallows and clotted cream fudge.

The Serious Sweet Company, which started out selling to local farmers' markets, delis and independent retailers, has been making confectionary at its Harrogate home for the last five years and now employs 35 people.

General manager Jo Carlin said: "We are delighted to be working with Asda as part of a long-term partnership.

"We spent six months from development stage to launch getting the hot cross bun fudge to the high standard we hold ourselves to."

The company uses traditional methods to make their fudge, using copper pans and letting the fudge cool slowly to give it the perfect crumbly, melt in the mouth texture.
