A BUS depot that is already in use is set to have its application for planning permission refused.

York Pullman Bus Company has applied for permission for its depot off Pottery Lane in Strensall. But council planning officers have advised the application is turned down because the site lies within the Green Belt.

A report prepared for a meeting tomorrow says the public protection team do not object to the depot because it has already been in operation for a number of years without complaint.

It also says Strensall Parish Council originally objected to the scheme because the site can only be reached by a narrow road “where it is impossible for two vehicles to pass without damaging the verge”. But the company has now agreed to create passing places on the road.

And the owner of nearby Hundred Acre Farm said they do not object to the depot, adding that the “very courteous” staff drive slowly and the coach company serves a number of schools in the area.

But the report says: “The proposed development would constitute inappropriate development in the Green Belt that does not fall within the listed exceptions.”
