A PUB in York is set to be turned into a new veterinary surgery.

A planning application has been submitted for the former Puss N Boots on Hamilton Drive to become a vets - with an operating theatre, three consulting rooms, a laboratory, dog ward, cat ward and imaging room.

Under the scheme, a small extension would also be created on the ground floor to create a room where animals can be x-rayed.

Veterinary group CVS has submitted the application to City of York Council and a statement says the pub is currently closed and derelict.

It adds: “The proposal will not have any adverse affect on the surrounding properties and it will not lead to an increased level of traffic which is adversely different to traffic movements currently experienced on the local roads.

“The proposal consists of stripping out all existing internal fixtures and fittings, alterations to internal walls and spaces to create the required rooms, adding a wall and roof infill section at the rear and adding a small single storey extension to the south-east corner of the building, which once contained a garage.”

Plans for the new vets include converting the pub, installing an access ramp and enlarging the entrance on the north west side of the building facing Hamilton Drive.

Documents say 19 staff parking spaces will be provided and the business will employ 10 people.

It would open from 8am to 7pm on weekdays, 8am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.

They add that there will also be a “discrete area for the collection of deceased animals”. The site is directly opposite Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC Primary School.

CVS currently owns Battle Flatts Vets, which has practices in Strensall, Pocklington, Stamford Bridge and Norton.
