YORK Musical Theatre Company's cast is in place for this summer's Stage Experience show, Rock Of Ages, High School Edition.

Thirty young people took part in a busy day of audition workshops for the Broadway musical at Acomb Methodist Church on April 6, attending from schools all over York, such as Joseph Rowntree School, Manor C of E Academy and St Peter's, and from Hull schools too.

These workshops were led by director and company chairman Richard Bainbridge, joined by musical director John Atkin, who taught the songs, and choreographer Luke Redhead, who put the auditionees through their paces to Journey's Don’t Stop Believin’.

The summer school for 12 to 19 year olds will run from August 18 to 31 at the John Cooper Studio Theatre @41 Monkgate, where two weeks of tuition and workshops in singing, acting and dancing will conclude with four performances from August 29 to 31.

The Tony Award-nominated Rock Of Ages heads back to the Eighties' days of big bands, big egos, big guitar solos and even bigger hair, building the show around the power-packed songs of Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister et al.
