A YORK branch of Morrisons is celebrating raising almost £14,000 for a leading cancer charity and has pledged to continue its support until 2021.

The Foss Islands branch has raised almost £14,000 for Clic Sargent, which supports young people living with cancer.

The national partnership has proved so successful that staff have overwhelmingly agreed to keep supporting the charity until 2021.

Store spokeswoman Wendy Davis said: "We are so grateful to have such kind-hearted customers here in York.

"We are proud to have raised so much for such an amazing charity."

Earlier this week, a Mad Hatters tea party for children from York special school Applefields, added to the Foss Islands fundraising total.

Store customer George Fawcett dressed up as the Mad Hatter and kept everyone entertained with magic tricks, while trombonist Kenny played Disney songs.

A raffle and donations during the day raised £83.86.

All money raised will fund Clic Sargent projects across the country, which enable it to provide accommodation for young people and their families who have to travel long distances for treatment.
